Google Suggestions

Want a glimpse at who's using the internet these days? Try using Google. And by that, I mean type in random words and see how Google suggests to finish the phrase.
Of course, you could start with letters, but seeing that most of them are businesses (i.e. W is for Walmart), they probably paid for that spot. So I'm going to start with the question words. What are people asking Google these days?

Judging by this list, the next reult would be either "how to check into rehab", or "how to handle divorce paperwork".)

dA: Do Not Attempt to Adjust Your Monitor...

...this is actually a real update.

Yes it has been quite some time since I've truly visited the ol' dA stomping grounds. So I'll get the usualy empty promises of uploading stuff out of the way.

I plan on uploading my artwork from my Tyler "career" at some point. More for me and my cataloging habits than for you. (Nothing personal.)

Now that that's done with I can tell you where some (relatively) new stuff of mine IS uploaded: http://astro.temple.edu/~tub53101 It's not all of my new stuff, but it IS something. That being said, there's a link on that site to the "official" Everybody Hates Hamlet website; which, at this point allows yo u to watch it and listen to the "original soundtrack".

Now for a deviantArt specific topic: why do keep people favoriting my "Cartoon Network Collection"? Whenever I visit this site, that's pretty much the only "miscellaneous" messages I get. It now has 147 favorites and 11,916 views. I haven't looked to see which one of my deviations comes in second, but I'm pretty sure it would be pretty pathetic by comparison. This leads me to believe that most deviantArt users are here for the fan art. Not that I'm complaining, I'm just a little dissapointed, that's all.

And in webcomics news, M-Comics will be resumed most likely when I'm done for the semester, and Ack-A-Me is still on the eternal hiatus. I have pencil comics drawn out for both, just not the time to digitize anything.

Periodic Table of Typefaces

It's sad because I thought of it BEFORE I found it. But it's also a lot better than I imagined as well, and from the looks of it, required a lot more work than I would've been willing to do. (As far as researching the best fonts and whatnot)

Avatar the Last Airbender Movie and "Racebending"

I feel that as a fan of Avatar, I should state my opinion about this situation. But first, yes, Avatar the animated TV show displays a wide range of ethnic groups, and that's pretty darn neat.

The issue arises from Paramount's decision to cast actors that do not hail from the same ethnicity as their animated counterpart. I think this is just all blown out of proportion. Yes, admittedly, having the 100% true ethnic cast would add a hightened element of reality to the conversion of Avatar to the live action big screen, but as far as I'm concerned, so long as the actors play their part well and are dedicated to their role, that's fine by me. I don't think Paramount is being racist- I think they're being lazy. They're just too lazy to find ethnic actors and actresses. I would agree that they were specifically being racist if they chose well known actors over ethnic ones, but as far as I can tell that has not happened. It sounds like they audtioned and whoever showed up showed up. Could they have scouted and found good ethnic actors? Yes. But they're lazy and cheap. Not racists.

I'm more concerned that they stick to the plot, as it is a very in-depth and intriguing plot. If they keep the story entact in its entirety, then I'm in. But the fact that Racebending brought up about the lack of Chinese caligraphy kinda makes me have doubts. And what about M. Night "Shamwow"? His directing record lately hasn't been all too impressive. Making me doubt this project even more. I think it's clear that regardless of the issue with the movie, the animated series will always be better.

Not a Fan of University Classes

So I decided to take it upon myself this fall semester to register for only two studio classes (Painting and Graphic Design) and fill the rest of my roster with GenEds. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Temple's "General Education" Program, picture being lobotomized two to three times a week, while being bombarded with messages like "Diversity matters" and "Today we will be discussing what identity means" or even "URL stands for Uniform Resource Locator; you will have a quiz on this." It's pointless, mind numbing and required by the University if you plan on getting a degree.

So I devised a way to change this. For the past two days, even though it was the first day of classes I have been diligently taking notes. Below, I present my notes from the past two days, with commentary.

Perhaps I'll upload some more notes, but for now This is just so you get an idea of how I can intensively "doodle" productively. I started the next page with "Cyberspace and Society", which due to the fact that it is 5:30-8:00 PM, I managed to get almost a half page (we even got out early). Can't wait to see what my Painting and Graphic Design notes are like!

dA: Last Minute August Update

Hey lookie! A new deviation! I thought I'd share the official shirt I designed for the incoming freshman class of Tyler School of Art. Also, M-Comics has resumed an update schedule of Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Check it out at http://mcomics.thewebcomic.com

School is now back in session, so I will be doin g some Graphic Design work, as well as oil painting. Hopefully I'll have time to do some photography on the side as well.
