Google Suggestions

Want a glimpse at who's using the internet these days? Try using Google. And by that, I mean type in random words and see how Google suggests to finish the phrase.
Of course, you could start with letters, but seeing that most of them are businesses (i.e. W is for Walmart), they probably paid for that spot. So I'm going to start with the question words. What are people asking Google these days?

"Who " (space included)
...is big poppa on real housewives of atlanta
...won megan wants a millionaire
...is my congressman
...invented the internet
...won america's got talent 2009
(These results ignore the "who wants to be a millionaire", "who says lyrics", and "who moved my cheese" as they are not actual questions.)

"What "
...is my ip
...does my name mean
...is my ip address
...is twitter
...to do when your bored
...time is it
...is love
...is a good credit score
(Not including 'what not to wear' and 'what are these strawberries doing on my nipples i need them for the fruit salad"(it's a book.))

"Where "
Where is monopolized by "Where the Wild Things Are" variations with the exception of #10: "Where are they Now"
However "Where is" yields some interesting results, including Chuck Norris, "my refund", "Lady Gaga from", "my mind", and "your appendix"

"When "
...is daylight savings 2009
...will i die
...is labor day
...will the world end
...is easter 2010
...does daylight savings end 2009
...does daylight savings time end
...does the hangover come out on dvd
...is thanksgiving day in 2009
...does new moon come out

"Why "
...do men have nipples
...is the sky blue
...is my poop green
...do cats purr
...do dogs eat grass
...did the chicken cross the road
...do dogs eat poop
...is there a dead pakistani on my couch
...did i get married
...did michael jackson turn white
(The sad thing about this list is that shows what people are asking these days...)

"How "
...to tie a tie
...to kiss
...to get pregnant
...to
...stuff works
...to lose weight fast
...to write a resume
...to lose weight
...long does weed stay in your system
(This result list could be taken chronologically. Getting dressed for a date, kissing, taking it to the next level (possibly marriage), interest in things other than their spouse, losing weight to 'save' marriage, looking for a new job after being fired from the last one for doing nothing but asking google how to live, losing weight for health reasons, and the drug slip-up. Judging by this list, the next reult would be either "how to check into rehab", or "how to handle divorce paperwork".)

dA: Do Not Attempt to Adjust Your Monitor...

...this is actually a real update.

Yes it has been quite some time since I've truly visited the ol' dA stomping grounds. So I'll get the usualy empty promises of uploading stuff out of the way.

I plan on uploading my artwork from my Tyler "career" at some point. More for me and my cataloging habits than for you. (Nothing personal.)

Now that that's done with I can tell you where some (relatively) new stuff of mine IS uploaded: http://astro.temple.edu/~tub53101 It's not all of my new stuff, but it IS something. That being said, there's a link on that site to the "official" Everybody Hates Hamlet website; which, at this point allows yo u to watch it and listen to the "original soundtrack".

Now for a deviantArt specific topic: why do keep people favoriting my "Cartoon Network Collection"? Whenever I visit this site, that's pretty much the only "miscellaneous" messages I get. It now has 147 favorites and 11,916 views. I haven't looked to see which one of my deviations comes in second, but I'm pretty sure it would be pretty pathetic by comparison. This leads me to believe that most deviantArt users are here for the fan art. Not that I'm complaining, I'm just a little dissapointed, that's all.

And in webcomics news, M-Comics will be resumed most likely when I'm done for the semester, and Ack-A-Me is still on the eternal hiatus. I have pencil comics drawn out for both, just not the time to digitize anything.

I suppose that's it for the Journal update. Thanks for reading!

Periodic Table of Typefaces

It's sad because I thought of it BEFORE I found it. But it's also a lot better than I imagined as well, and from the looks of it, required a lot more work than I would've been willing to do. (As far as researching the best fonts and whatnot)

Avatar the Last Airbender Movie and "Racebending"

http://www.racebending.com/v2/

I feel that as a fan of Avatar, I should state my opinion about this situation. But first, yes, Avatar the animated TV show displays a wide range of ethnic groups, and that's pretty darn neat.

The issue arises from Paramount's decision to cast actors that do not hail from the same ethnicity as their animated counterpart. I think this is just all blown out of proportion. Yes, admittedly, having the 100% true ethnic cast would add a hightened element of reality to the conversion of Avatar to the live action big screen, but as far as I'm concerned, so long as the actors play their part well and are dedicated to their role, that's fine by me. I don't think Paramount is being racist- I think they're being lazy. They're just too lazy to find ethnic actors and actresses. I would agree that they were specifically being racist if they chose well known actors over ethnic ones, but as far as I can tell that has not happened. It sounds like they audtioned and whoever showed up showed up. Could they have scouted and found good ethnic actors? Yes. But they're lazy and cheap. Not racists.

I'm more concerned that they stick to the plot, as it is a very in-depth and intriguing plot. If they keep the story entact in its entirety, then I'm in. But the fact that Racebending brought up about the lack of Chinese caligraphy kinda makes me have doubts. And what about M. Night "Shamwow"? His directing record lately hasn't been all too impressive. Making me doubt this project even more. I think it's clear that regardless of the issue with the movie, the animated series will always be better.

Not a Fan of University Classes

So I decided to take it upon myself this fall semester to register for only two studio classes (Painting and Graphic Design) and fill the rest of my roster with GenEds. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Temple's "General Education" Program, picture being lobotomized two to three times a week, while being bombarded with messages like "Diversity matters" and "Today we will be discussing what identity means" or even "URL stands for Uniform Resource Locator; you will have a quiz on this." It's pointless, mind numbing and required by the University if you plan on getting a degree.

So I devised a way to change this. For the past two days, even though it was the first day of classes I have been diligently taking notes. Below, I present my notes from the past two days, with commentary.

Perhaps I'll upload some more notes, but for now This is just so you get an idea of how I can intensively "doodle" productively. I started the next page with "Cyberspace and Society", which due to the fact that it is 5:30-8:00 PM, I managed to get almost a half page (we even got out early). Can't wait to see what my Painting and Graphic Design notes are like!

EDIT: Here's a link to the full size

dA: Last Minute August Update

Hey lookie! A new deviation! I thought I'd share the official shirt I designed for the incoming freshman class of Tyler School of Art. Also, M-Comics has resumed an update schedule of Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Check it out at http://mcomics.thewebcomic.com

School is now back in session, so I will be doin g some Graphic Design work, as well as oil painting. Hopefully I'll have time to do some photography on the side as well.
I'll get last semester's stuff up... eventually.

Till then,
AJ

I'm a Font Geek and Other Things

So today I was checking my e-mail, and received one that made me cringe. This was because it was typed out in "Papyrus", a font that any designer would know to avoid. It wasn't so much the cringing that makes me worried, but the fact that I didn't read the e-mail until I changed the font is what makes me now realize how much of a geek I have truly become.

In other news, I've decided to get back to posting Weekend Interview episodes on Facebook. One thing has me worried though. If the one of the commercials I put up was removed because it had "copyright infringing material" (The background music) how will the rest of the videos survive? I mean, In the first one, that's almost been up for a year now, has a clip from Bambi in it. Not to mention that our "Theme Song" was the Muppet Show Theme. So we'll see how it goes I guess.

dA: June-July Update

Why do I even bother posting here when I don't upload any art? Well I hope to change that this month. Yep. That's all for June-July. Nothing has changed a whole lot. Back to your buisness.

Now Mirroring my deviantArt Bloggy Thing

I usually post a little update each month on my deviantArt page. Now that I am keeping this blog as well, I will post whatever I post on dA here as well.

"Yeah, so I skipped April. Nobody cares. This semester is pretty much over with the exception of an Art History Final. I plan on uploading my work from this semester sometime during the month. Here's a few reasons May is going to be awesome:
1) I complete my first year of college
2) No More Kings is releasing a new album
3) 2 year anniversary with Caitlin
4) Up Comes to Theaters
5) other cool stuff will happen
I also plan on revitalizing my webcomics, Ack-A-Me Adventures, and re-inventing M-Comics, for what the fourth time now? So that shall be fun. As well as summer courses! I'll be taking Computers for Design over the summer, hopefully that'll be easy."

Osbourne's New Variety Show to Feature Obama

This morning in a "People Magazine" interview, Ozzy Osbourne revealed that the president himself would be making his rock career debut on the new show "Osbournes Reloaded". Ozzy gave a few remarks about the subject, but no one could understand what.

Spirograph Tutorial

I thought this was a neat tutorial. Really helped me learn about using the "Pucker and Bloat" and other transforming techniques in AI. I chose to do designs 1, 2 and 6 in the tutorial. The bottom one was one of my own creation. I'd do more, but I have a 6 page paper to write for english.

Escheresque- The final project

For full effect, click on image for the full viewing size. Sadly, even that size is roughly half of what the original image was, in interest to have a small enough file to post in this blog. I was looking around for a good swf hosting site- one that could host a 5,737 swf, but I'll just have to look into ways to shrink that file size. Why so big? Well, if this were to ever be printed, I'd want it to be huge, so one could see each and every T-Shirt detail. Ironically, it took more time to copy and paste the (and sometimes livetrace) images, than it did to figure out how the shirts would interlock and how the colors would pattern out.

Playing as the MC

...MC Escher of course. Here's two pattern studies I did in preparation of my newest Computers assignment. The integration pattern took awhile to crack, and I also wanted to crop the pictures in such a way that the pattern could be repeated endlessly. I had to crop them in Photoshop, since I'm still fighting with Illustrator when it comes to exporting JPEGs.

Artwork Featured in Deviant Art Blog!

An old digital piece I did, "Arachnephobia", was featured in the Featurette linked above. I was so overwhelmed with joy I just HAD to blog about it.

Illustrator Self Portrait

Well, the transition from PS to AI isn't as drastic as I thought it would be, and learning the pen tool was ALOT simpler than I imagined. So here's the product of my labor. Not that many people would care, but I had originally created the work paths in PS, then I got AI in the middle of creation, and had to painstakingly copy and paste each path, and then arrange them all so they lined up. There are 7 layers with so many groups per layer I do not feel like counting. I just really wish Adobe would get on the ball and integrate their software alot better. I mean, the swtaches and sutom shapes files are different for each program? I can't just make one custom shape file and have it operational in both? I hope I'm wrong because it's really lame. And I had to go into PS to crop the picture so that the shapes extending past my canvas wouldn't show.

Check out My Latest Webcomic!

Over the break I was able to put together a few pages for web submission. Originally sketched out in pencil, I scanned each page in at 2000 dpi to make the line quality look a little bit cleaner. Yeah. It updates Sundays, and is just a way for me to freely mock that wonderful supermarket we all know and love.

The link to "Anthony DeLuca's Art" is Wrong

Hey, just informing everyone that the link in Classwithkaren's list titled "Anthon DeLuca's Art" is in fact not a link to my deviant art page. The correct link is http://ajd08.deviantart.com/

So, either just remove it, or if your REALLY want to keep the link on your list, please fix it. Thanks!

Tyler Building Panned in Inquirer Article

Changing Skyline: Temple's artless new building

I don't think the new building's so bad. And apparently neither does the majority of people who read the article (when I voted in the poll, 51% said they liked it).
